Module 1: Shifting Paradigms
This module reveals the specifics of the distance learning (DL) environment, and compares this context with the traditional classroom. It also highlights advantages and shortcomings of DL and introduces the notion of “interrelation” that is found as the most important ingredient of the DL context. It also discusses a new role that the teacher must assume in the online environment compared to the traditional one.
Module 2: Psychology of Distance Learning
This module discusses various types of students encountered in the distance learning environment, from non-traditional students to the "generation net”. It also educates the participants about peculiarities of the “generation net” and provides some useful strategies that work for this type of learner. The course also introduces various intriguing psychological aspects of the DL environment that are needed to be taken into account in the course design.
Module 3: DL Material Development
This module is devoted to the material development for the distance learning context. It trains the participants how to design audio, text and video materials, as well as provides step-by-step guides for developing podcasts, Power Point lectures and webinars.
Module 4: PBLS
This module introduces the concepts of project and problem- based learning, - two types of methodologies that are particularly beneficial for the online context.
Module 5: Social Media in the Classroom
This module demonstrates how to develop student-centered and student-driven classrooms and collaborative environments online through the use of social media, such as Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter.
